i went to burgau in October 2004 with four other friends. while there we had a great time, sitting on the beach till late and drinking in jimmies untill later than that. we had a few good nights out in largos too! we met scott and martyn there - who worked at jimmies, and they made our holiday really funny and something to remeber. i kept in contact with both scott and martyn, and even met my boyfriend out there. we are still together back in england!

Hello, i remember burgau very well, my brother chris lives in burgau with liz and harley, my dad died 2 years ago while living in luz with my mum, they used to live in burgau and so we scattered his ashes up on the hill where the lighthouse is so he can always see!!! my memories of burgau will always live on now because of that. Hello, myself and my friend Nicky go to Burgau every year and we love it!!!! Can't wait to get back there - it is a home from home. Nicky was the one who introduced me to Burgau as she has been going there for over 15 years. Just wish I had been sooner. Hello to Paulinho, Manuel and Didi!!! Miss you loads and see you soon. Hannah and Nicky

Me and six of my mates visited burgau july last year, and i can asure you it is a holiday we wll never forget. From the moment we arrived in burgau, we were in love with it. The appartment we were staying in was the first appartment on the road up to the navigator, and the veiws were spectacular. In know time at all we made our self know and were welcomed by every one we meet. Jimmys bar became our local where we partyed from six till two, where sang on kareoke, drank flaming shots and made some very good friends who we still keep in touch with. Big thanx to "Ben Stones", "uno brow", "marco", "pedro", "elizabeth and rui" and many many moor who made our time in burgau so spesh!!! The long loungy days on the beach, that drifted on in to the evening, while we drank cocktails and listened to the dj playing music in the beach bar will stay with us for a long time. Burgau is such a small, beautiful place with such alot to offer, and we cant wait to later return to burgau later this year. so burgau watch out the tugal babes are guna be back!!!! love you xxxxxxxx

First visited Burgau when I was around 15, remember the only disco in the village, what fun, the dark walk home, had a break for several years and upon deciding what to do for our annual holiday, myself, husband and two small children, had a thought of going back to Burgau, we only did one week, but my husband could not beleive what a wonderful place it was, that was 9 years ago and we are now proud owners of two apartments in the village and visit at least 3 times a years. What more can I say, we love it and intend to spend as much time as possible there.

I remember staying at a villa on the outskirts of the village with my pal and his family away back approx 1987( Beach Villa Holidays). Had a great time and used to walk to the sports centre quite a lot as it was ideal for the kids.My pal(Jim ) and myself always used to 'volunteer' to walk into the town for the shopping, but always managed to stop off at the wee pub just at the edge of the village on the way back for a few beers, until the wifes suddenly realised a few days later the reason for our sudden interest in shopping!!!!.The beach bar was a great place for a meal and also remembered a smashing shop on the way down to the beach which sold a fabulous range of port.Have never been back, but would love to return soon, as many happy memories.Graham McBride (Greenock Scotland)

What can I add that everyone hasn't said already, it is definitely a small paradise - we haven't been for a couple of years now but I can't wait to return again soon, the only place that I have been to where I can honestly said it is like being home Lesley (Charlotte's Mum)

Portuguese Paradise - two words that sum up Burgau! Got so many great memories from holidays there and from the year I spent living there, but most of all I have made friends for life. Love to Luis especially - one of the greatest friends you can ever have. Charlotte

Its that time of year again when u long to be there!!! November! so cold!!But even if the sun isnt shining Burgau, u know your heart will be, as soon as u arrive. Roll on July,Aug, im coming home!!! Hayley xxxxx Antonio, i loves ya!!! H XXXX

How can u explain the wonder of Burgau!?
Heaven on earth!!

We have just returned from our first holiday to burgau but it won't be our last. We read the comments on this page before we went and thought is it really like that!! now having been there we have reread the comments and can relate to them so much. Only worrying thing are the two large complexes being built on the roads to Luz and Salema, hopefully they will not change it too much! Where else can you be walking down the main road 10:30 at night and not see anyone around? Great

I have been going to Burgau since i was a baby and its the best place in the world. Have made some lovely friends and spent lots of money on Paulinho's lovely sex on the beach cocktails! The nicest, freshest and tastiest fish can be eaten in The Hut and Luis' restaurant. The stars at night over the bay are amazing lovely to lookup at from the beach. I haven't been there for a year and a half and really miss it. Hopefully will be back this year. Love to Luis and Paulinho x

Burgau is a really nice friendly place where you meet people year after year as once people come to Burgau, because of the friendly atmosphere people return to the town year after year. I have been to Burgau 2-3 times a year since 1998. It is within easy reach of the more lively resorts, but with Burgau you still have somewhere quiet to return to.
There are some very good restaurants in Burgau and plenty of bars, where eating and drinking is still very reasonable compared to the UK

Somewhere special is all that needs to be said.

Burgau is a little bit of heaven - a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day - somewhere VERY special. Once visited it remains in your heart for ever. Roll on Easter and our next visit for two weeks of bliss. We don't even care if it rains

Been to Burgau very many times. Fell in love with the place and the people immediately. A totally unspoilt relaxed place. Loved it.

We have been to Burgau 3 times as a family and can't wait to go back, its lovely beach, lovely people and fantastic food.

Some years ago we went to the Algarve on an allocation on arrival deal. We were taken to Burgau. We had a small apartment behind the Smugglers bar. On exploring the village for the first time we were horrified to see how small it was, us being used to larger resorts. By the third day we had fallen in love with the place. We returned the following year for another holiday and having been to Portugal several times since we always drive west and spend a day in Burgau, having lunch in the beach bar. We hope to stay there again possibly later this year.

Looking forward to returning in September. We have been many times and always enjoy the relaxed way of life. We have spent many a night drinking in the pigs head. Family now grown up but they still make sure they are included in the holiday.

We first fell in love with Burgau 22 years ago and have returned many, many times. When we first arrived in this sleepy fishing village with two very young children, our first thoughts were "where on earth have we come, what have we let ourselves in for"!!!! These thoughts soons changed. This was possibly the best holiday we had ever had. And what a welcome from the locals. Now when we arrive it is like going home, the locals like old friends.Over the years, I have seen very few changes and this adds to the charm. Quite frankly, there is nowhere else in this world that we would want to go after seeing Burgau.

I Visted Burgau in 1998 for the first time and instantly fell in love with it. If you like to relax, eat great food, drink lancers (rose wine) and lots of port, then Burgau is for you!1998 was my first year to Burgau and i have been back every year since then. When you get to Burgau, unpack your case then go for a stroll around the little village. All the locals are so friendly and make you feel welcome - home from home! You can watch the fisherman come to shore and see the catch of the day. The locals BBQ sardines at lunch time on the BBQ's outside there houses on the cobble streets, its amazing! The bus stop is a meeting place, morning and evening for the local Men! I like to sit with them and have a photo then take them a copy the following year. Every day there is a little market near the bus stop, different things each day. There is a little bakery near the bus stop, get your fresh bread rolls in the morning for breakfast. I can recommend so many great restaurants; D.Dinis, Mr D.Dinis will come and pick you up then drop you off later at your apartment, the food is great, try the Portuguese steak. The Beach Bar, amazing day and night, try the kebabs and say hi to Jimmy (he knows everyone). Casa Grande, Looks like a haunted house, owned by a famous english lady called Sally Vincent, she also does the cooking. Try the baked bananas in port for desert, wow. O'Navegador, On the beach, look left, the yellow apts on the hill called Descobrimentos (that's where i stay, amazing). Great restaurant with a top view of the beach and Burgau. Carravela, near the bus stop. Amazing and they really look after you. Try the mixed grill, wow, also the fillet steak, its cooked at your table and for desert the crepes, also cooked at your table. If you go into Lagos for a meal at night, you have to go to O'Galeao and have the french onion soup for starter, lovely. There are not many bars in Burgau but enough for a small fishing village. Lagos has lots of bars as it is a busy town and its only 10 mins away in a taxi. Well i will end there as i could talk all day about Burgau, Enjoy!

Just back from a idyllic holiday. Found your website most helpful as we had never heard of the resort before. As charming as everyone suggested. A car an absolute must, although buses very reliable. The people were enchanting. Had a bit of a problem getting a table for dinner on the first evening, a good idea to reserve a table in advance.

Hi I am Mike Ford and have been going to Burgau since 1982 and have to say it is the one place in the world where I find I can get off the plane head to and feel no stress. Its like a heavenly home, when my kids were young I knew they amongst a people who cared for and respected them as though they were their own. The Portuguese people I have always found to be welcoming and involving. Bars like Evo's ouse friendliness and have a mix of locals and visitors alike. If you like to eat out the choice is amazing. There are places where the coastline is just there in front of you taunting you with its beauty or spectacular restaurants such as the compaitively new traditional Mateus where the food is just amazing and the environment very special. If its a take awy you want the Take away pizzas from Casa Padaria are excellent value for money and very tasty.

I've just got back home from Burgau about a week ago. I stayed with seven other friends out there for the Euro 2004 tournament, and i think Burgau is a great place. The people out there are so friendly and all our group made lots of friends out there and got on with everybody. The place is quiet but is very close to lively places which i thought was brilliant. Made good friends with Paulino from Smugglers bar and lost twice to his five a side football team which was a good experience. I am definitely coming back to Burgau in the future.

W e have just spent the most romantic honeymoon in burgau we have always stayed in luz bay but gone to burgau everyday so when we got married we couldnt think of a better place to go we stayed in smugglers cottages on the slipway it was wonderful listening to the waves lapping on the shore as we lay in bed ? the locals are wonderful the food is excellent vino verdi out this world what more can you ask for o ? o yea a wonderful new husband we will always go back and maybe one day we will stay for good?

Have just returned from our weeks holiday in Budens having found Burgau on the last day and wished we had found it sooner. We spent our last day on the beach and the evening in the beach bar and it was without dought the highlight of our stay. We will be back.....

I was in Burgau a couple of weeks ago, with my friend Sandra. What a week we had. We went to jimmy's bar, and oh what a time we had. The friends we made were brilliant. Its a beautiful place so very friendly. We visited Luz,Lagos and also slide and splash water park. I would like to thank Sue, Jimmy and Scott for the great holiday they gave us. We are looking forward to going again.

Have been in Burgau a couple of weeks ago - together with my husband. What we found there was exactly what we need: less tourists, a wonderful beach, hospitality and kind people. We had a wonderful time - and we will come back - that's for sure! The flight has been booked already

Went there in 1978 with husband and children and went back every year thereafter till the early 80's. Went back again in 90's and the place was still the same. We had many a "party" in the Beach Bar. Stayed in the villa on the corner on the way down to the beach - it overlooks the beach. It was an old fashioned house when we went there and then it got "done up". Fond memories of Ralph, Keith, Luis (Atoca). Lovely relaxing place.

I love Burgau, I have been there twice. I cant remember the place that I stayed but it was on the way out of the village and up a hill, on the left. it was the first place up the hill although there were more further up the hill. it consisted of five apartments and was very nice and comfortable. i also loved the cafe in town. was it "Rui's"? it was great I am coming again in may and i am looking forward to it so much. could you send me some info about attractions for small children and also for older people. Thankyou very much.

Please do not tell you friends about Burgau, it is too nice to tell everybody about, one of the most laid back places that I know, a good choice of Bars and restaurants with an excellent Pizza Restaurant Casa Padaria right at the top of the Village Sent our regards to all in Burgau.

My girlfriend intoduced me to BURGAU for the first time. As I am only young (24) I was worried to hear it was a quiet little place with nothing to do but eat, drink and ... not much more! I went for the first time and to my amazment... loved it. Wot an amazing place. I met Jimmy and the guy from the off licence within an hour of being there and did I feel welcome? We stayed at Descobrimentos, the nice apartments up on the cliff, they were fantastic. Say hi to Miguel, Sasinyer and the two kids, Ricardo and Tatiyana. We sat and watched the fisherman come in from the beach bar, Jimmy pointed out that dolphins were going by in the distance, which was lovely to see. We were also told that David Seaman was at the Beach Bar on the Sunday with his family having sunday lunch. That morning we spent the morning at the beach, then went up to the pool for the afternoon.... dam... everyone in Burgau saw him, but me!!!!! What can I say about BURGAU... What a special, amazing, lovely, relaxing, chilled out, perfect place to be... see you there x
